Musicians: Here’s your chance to perform and jam safely this Winter.
If you play a string or percussion instrument (guitar, violin, keyboards, drums, bass etc.), the Guided Jam Session could be the perfect solution to keep your from isolation this winter. It’s a weekly jam session at Foundation of Light in which 10 musicians will rehearse and then perform via livestreaming. The sessions are facilitated by head teacher at Guitar Lessons Ithaca, Dennis Winge. This is your chance to play your original material, your favorite covers, or just jam along with other people’s musical offerings.
It’s a fun, safe, creative way to spend your Wednesday nights. Limit of 10 musicians per week, so don’t delay to pre-register.
(We regret that this event is not open to vocalists and wind instruments at this time as we prioritize the health and safety of all participants.)
Every week, you have the opportunity to:
-
perform live stream with a band for your friends and family
-
connect with other musicians of lots of genres & styles
-
learn & grow as a musician
-
and much more!
-
limit of 10 musicians per week
-
reserve your spot in advance!
INTRUCTIONS TO REGISTER
You must read every word below before registering, and anyone who registers is responsible for the terms and conditions below.
There is a limit of 10 musicians per week, and registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. After that limit is reached, pre-registration will no longer be available for that week. You cannot register more than 6 days prior to each week’s event.
Walk-ins are allowed, but by not pre-registering, you risk showing up to an event that you will not be allowed to participate in because all the slots have been filled.
When you click the button below, you will be given the opportunity to register via Paypal, credit or debit card.
There are no refunds given under any circumstances. If an event you have pre-registered for gets cancelled due to weather or an emergency, you will automatically be re-assigned to the following week’s event.
You must bring your own instruments and amplification to the event. This jam is for intermediate and advanced players. We will gladly help the early intermediates as necessary, but you at least need to be able to play a wide variety of chords (or drum beats) in time at various tempos.
By pre-registering, you also agree to:
- participate in the livestreaming event (i.e. your public video or photographic image may be used freely by the events hosts)
- wear a mask while in the building
- stay home if you are not feeling well
- be open-minded to different musical styles, and open-hearted to varying skill levels among your peers

Q & A
Still Have Questions? Maybe some of these will help.
Q: Will the instrumentation configuration be managed each week, or will it be strictly first-come, first-served? If the latter, what happens, for example, if four drummers register, but no bassists do?
A: The instrumentation will not be managed, and that is part of the creative process. In your example above, this would be no different from a drum circle in which a few other instruments happen to sit in. A chance to make music unlike that which any of the musicians have played before can present itself simply by an unusual instrumentation. Having said all that, I play bass and I can bring one each week. 🙂
Q: How will a registrant know what genre the session will focus on? In other words, will certain of the sessions focus on jazz?
A: Any style is welcome, from jazz to bluegrass, etc. If a lot of jazz players show up, I will help facilitate that jazz will be played without the non-jazz musicians feeling left out, if possible.
Q: Do I have to pre-pay or can I just show up with $20 cash?
A: We do accept walk-ins, but they run the risk of a) the session being full b) there being no session at all if no one signed up that week. To be safe, call or text Dennis at 607-222-3166 at least 4 hours prior to the session to find out if you can come as a walk-in.
