Hybrid Picking

Strategies for Hybrid Picking:

I.  pre-determined lick – choose any lick that you can’t play fast or cleanly with a pick

II.  diad pairs – 2 adjacent strings in 3rds or 4ths

III.  pedal point – 2 adjacent strings where one string stays on the same note

IV. leaps – a) playing an away note and coming back;  b) contours shifts  c) oscillating pedal point

V.  multi-string combinations (licks spanning 3 or 4 strings)
