Motifs
I. Introduction
motif is germ of idea that can be expanding, contracted, etc.
types of motifs:
rhythm (an element that can be placed anywhere)
rhythm (of a whole bar or phrase)
direction (all up, all down, down up, up down up, etc.)
technique (bend, slide, vibrato)
1, 2 or 3 notes that catch your ear (and get repeated or emphasized over multiple phrases)
an interval (distance between 2 notes)
sequence (contour of 3 to 6 notes)
